It’s always been our goal to serve and give back to the community. The look of that comes in many forms: From volunteering at festivals to replacing someone’s waterline, when we see a need we fill the need whenever possible.
Our history and main goal is to help property owners that cannot help themselves. From our most recent project where we raised the money to replace the roof of a church, to the one that got this volunteer group started by taking down an old business that had been condemned; with our help the property owner avoided fines and a lien being placed on her property. We’ve replaced many water lines, helped with lawn upkeep, as well as cleared property damage from the tornado, just to name a few.
With all this being said, we have felt the need to continue our efforts in other areas as well. Our community has a need that has been overlooked for far too long and we would like to not only bring awareness to that need, but also offer a solution for it.
Within the community there’s little for the older elementary kids to senior citizens to do to be active outdoors. We’ve researched this for several years, and it always comes back to the need for a multi-court.
What Is A Multi-Purpose Court?
A multi-purpose court is a playing surface that can be used for multiple sports. For example, a tennis court can also be used for pickleball or basketball. This type of court is becoming increasingly popular because it provides a lot of value for the community.
There is no dollar amount you could assign to spending valuable time with friends, family, and for sure none for the youth of our families and community members. We feel that as a board this is a need within this community and one we can help fill. It’s a larger project that will require support from the community, but we also hope that this will help build relationships as it could become a gathering place for people of all ages and walks of life.
The cost to engineer this multi court will be under $2,000.00.
We are looking at a cost of $66,250 to complete the project. Project site we are looking at building this at the Van city Park where the old city pool was. Building on this site would cost us less money due to lack of dirt work needed.
Fundraising goals: We have always said “ if everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.” This applies here as well, we will be fundraising within the community by doing various events and activities and possibly seeking a grant for some of it. We will be placing a thermometer down town to show our goals and where we’re at on those goals. We have created a website, obtained a QR code and we should be up and running 8/30/24 with all funds going into the VNHN account.
Once the money is raised we will be working with the city of Van to have this court built. We will not be building this court ourselves but with the help of contractors in the area we believe that this is attainable goal.
We believe that this court will be something for the community to utilize for decades to come and a valuable investment into the families and youth of the community and we look forward to being a part of this project.
